You are not alone in your thoughts and progress. Come to the very same conclusion. Though, I find Emacs to be a good editor to take notes in (i.e. ORG mode) and jump around between files. You never need to close it but can navigate files quickly within.

Otherwise, VSCode with vim or nvim extension is awesome. Great article. Cheers!
